Living It Out - Devotional

I am a regular contributor to the CedarCreek Living It Out - Devotional.

My prayer is that these words will inspire your journey of growth in your faith.

God is always near, ready to be found by those who truly seek Him. This devotional explores how growing our awareness, our “notice”, can open our eyes to God's presence in everyday moments. Even in seasons of waiting or uncertainty, God is speaking. When we slow down, pay attention, and pursue Him wholeheartedly, we begin to see His fingerprints everywhere. Sometimes, like sunglasses on our head, God’s presence isn’t missing, we’ve just stopped looking.

Scripture Reference: Jeremiah 29:12–13

Grace is more than the way we're saved—it's the way we're shaped. This devotional explores how God’s grace doesn’t just rescue us, but also teaches us to live with purpose, integrity, and self-control. It shows up in everyday moments, gently guiding us to say “no” to what pulls us away from God and “yes” to the life he’s called us to. When we fall short, grace lifts us, reminds us who we are in Christ, and leads us forward in love. Let grace be your guide, not just once, but every day.

Scripture Reference: Titus 2:11-12

Life is full of unexpected detours, broken relationships, delayed dreams, and painful memories that linger. But God never abandons what He starts. This devotional reflects on the personal journey of healing from a painful childhood and the quiet but powerful way God works behind the scenes. Even in seasons of silence or struggle, His Spirit is actively transforming us, redeeming generational pain, and growing spiritual gifts to serve others. God’s promise is clear: He will complete the good work He began in you. No matter how stuck you feel, He’s still working, and He’s not finished yet.

Scripture Reference: Philippians 1:6

The Israelites saw the land God promised, they held its fruit, witnessed its abundance, and knew His word was true. But fear crept in, and one small word “but” shifted their focus from promise to problem. This devotional reflects on how often we do the same, letting doubt drown out God’s direction. Caleb, however, responded differently. He saw the giants too, but his faith remained anchored in God’s power and promise. When we remember who leads us, fear loses its grip. Even when the path looks intimidating, God equips us to walk forward with confidence, knowing He will carry us through.

Scripture References: Numbers 13:27–28, 13:30

Ephesians 4 reminds us that the church isn’t a building or a Sunday routine, it’s a living body where every believer plays a vital role. This devotional challenges the idea that ministry is only for a few, showing how each person’s unique gifts help the whole body grow and thrive in Christ. When we step into our God-given roles, the church becomes a vibrant expression of love and grace to the world. You were made to contribute. The body needs you, just as you are.

Scripture References: Ephesians 4:11–12, Ephesians 4:16

Judas and Peter both failed Jesus, but only one found redemption. This devotional reflects on the crushing weight of guilt, the tragic end of Judas, and the restoring grace that met Peter. When we fall, we can choose despair or turn back to Jesus, whose mercy is always greater than our mistakes.

Scripture Reference: Matthew 27:1–31 (focus: Matthew 27:3–4)

In Matthew 3, John the Baptist appears in the wilderness with a bold and urgent message: “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” This devotional reflects on how the wilderness, often a place of barrenness and struggle, can also become sacred ground where God meets us and calls us to realign with His will. Repentance isn’t just about guilt; it’s about transformation, a turning away from sin and a turning toward God’s presence and purpose. Like John, God still sends voices into our lives today to point us back to Him. The Kingdom is near, will you be ready to receive it?

Scripture Reference: Matthew 3:1–2

Our words reveal what’s stored in our hearts. This devotional reflects on Luke 6:45, showing how pain and distrust can shape our speech and relationships. Yet God invites us to surrender our brokenness, allowing His grace to transform us from the inside out. When our hearts heal, our words and actions reflect His love and peace.

Scripture Reference: Luke 6:45

Words hold incredible power, they shape thoughts, influence actions, and reveal our hearts. This devotional reminds us that God is the Word, and our words should mirror His grace, truth, and love. Because people hear words through their own experiences, we must choose them with care, aiming to build others up and point them toward God’s love. Every conversation is an opportunity to plant seeds of hope or create barriers. Let’s be intentional, using words that reflect God’s heart, bringing encouragement, healing, and connection in a world that deeply needs it.

Scripture Reference: John 1:1

Waiting tests our faith deeply, just as the Israelites struggled in Exodus 32 when Moses delayed. This devotional shares a personal story of waiting through loss and longing, reminding us that God is never idle, even when answers seem delayed. In our waiting, God is shaping us, teaching trust, and preparing us for His timing. When worry tempts us to take control, we can choose faith instead, knowing God’s faithfulness is sure and His plans are greater than we imagine.

Scripture Reference: Exodus 32:1

Paul’s call in Ephesians 5:1-2 invites us to imitate God by living a life filled with love, not out of perfection, but from a heart surrendered to Christ. This devotional encourages celebrating progress over perfection, recognizing that every step toward reflecting God’s love is a pleasing offering to Him. No matter our circumstances or struggles, God delights in our growth and daily efforts to walk in love. Let’s embrace the journey and rejoice in how far we’ve come, knowing God is at work in us every step of the way.

Scripture Reference: Ephesians 5:1–2

Paul’s words remind us that God’s grace is enough and His power shines brightest in our weakness. This devotional invites us to lean into God amid life’s struggles, allowing Him to weave our pain and joy into a beautiful tapestry. When we surrender our vulnerabilities, His strength transforms us, binding us with love, hope, and peace. Our challenges aren’t just hardships, they’re opportunities for God’s grace to make us whole and resilient.

Scripture Reference: 2 Corinthians 12:9

We don’t have to carry our pain alone—God invites us to lay our burdens at His feet. This devotional explores the healing that comes when we stop hiding our hurt and allow God to transform our pain into purpose. As we share our stories, we not only find freedom but also help others break free from hidden struggles. God doesn’t waste our wounds; He uses them to bring hope and healing to others. Let go, open your heart, and trust Him to carry what you were never meant to hold alone.

Scripture Reference: Psalm 55:22

True friends aren’t just companions, they’re God-given anchors for our faith journey. This devotional celebrates the “Rooted Ones,” those loyal, truth-speaking friends who walk with us through every season, pointing us back to God. These relationships, rooted in love and accountability, help us grow, stay grounded, and live out our purpose. Real friendship is more than support, it’s spiritual companionship that draws us closer to God and strengthens us for the path ahead.

Scripture Reference: Proverbs 18:24

When Peter rebuked Jesus for predicting his suffering, he couldn’t see the bigger picture, only pain, loss, and fear. This devotional unpacks how our limited human perspective can blur God’s greater purpose. Like Peter, we often resist what doesn’t make sense. But peace is found not in control, but in surrender. Jesus saw the cross not as defeat, but as the way to victory. When we trust God’s perspective over our own, we open the door to transformation, healing, and lasting peace. Our struggles are never wasted. God is always working for our good.

Scripture Reference: Matthew 16:22–23

Jesus challenges us to respond to hurt and disappointment not with retaliation, but with radical, generous love. This devotional explores how, even when others let us down, we have the opportunity to reflect Christ by choosing grace over resentment. It’s not about weakness, it’s about strength rooted in love. When we let go of the need to get even and instead give more than expected, we free ourselves from bitterness and grow deeper in purpose and peace. Love has the power to transform hearts, starting with our own.

Scripture Reference: Matthew 5:39–41

Feeling overwhelmed by the demands of life? This devotional reminds us of the power of rest in Christ. Jesus invites us to come to him and find soul-deep rest that refreshes and strengthens us. When we constantly push through exhaustion, we risk damaging our relationships with God, others, and ourselves. By pausing, surrendering our burdens, and embracing God’s grace, we can experience the peace and renewal He offers.

Scripture Reference: Matthew 11:28

Feeling overwhelmed by stress? This devotional, based on 2 Timothy 1:7, reminds us that God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear or timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. Instead of letting fear control our responses, we can tap into the strength God has provided to overcome life’s challenges with grace. Through His power, we can face stress head-on, approach relationships with love, and respond thoughtfully under pressure.

In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to forget that God is actively working around us, moving in ways we can’t always see. Today’s devotional, inspired by 2 Peter 3:9, reminds us that God’s patience is a sign of His deep love, giving us and others the opportunity to repent and experience His grace. As we hear stories of lives being transformed—whether through small acts of kindness or life-changing moments like baptisms—we’re reminded that God uses us in His mission.
